Jack's songs and interview in 'History of the Eagles Part 1'
"...He’s a master songwriter, a crafter of songs that feel tranquil but run layers deep. With LIVE AT TALES FROM THE TAVERN, Tempchin returns a bag full of his famous hits to their roots. No longer is the Glenn Frey Miami Vice theme song YOU BELONG TO THE CITY a glitzy over-produced pop song. Here, Tempchin strums a moody guitar while creating a lonely longing tale from the streets delivered with a layer of grime. The 1977 Johnny Rivers top ten hit SLOW DANCING becomes even more graceful with Tempchin’s reading accenting its romantic underpinnings. And the mega-famous Eagles hit ALREADY GONE transforms into a hootenanny sing along of independence celebration. With a comfortable straight ahead approach, Tempchin reclaims these songs, returning them to their rightful owner and exposing the beauty in their craft..." -Rick Ostop (Read entire review at link)

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego-based songwriter who wrote The Eagles' "Peaceful Easy Feeling" was honored Saturday-- the 40th anniversary of the hit song's release -- with a proclamation from Mayor Jerry Sanders' office. CBS 8 KFMB TV was there...
'Peaceful Easy Feeling' composer gets dedicated Wiener table
What do The Eagles, outgoing San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and the Wienerschnitzel fast-food outlet in Hillcrest have in common?
Take a bow, veteran San Diego singer-songwriter Jack Tempchin! Make that, a "peaceful easy feeling" kind of bow.
On Dec. 1, 1972, The Eagles released their version of "Peaceful Easy Feeling," which went on to become one of the band's most popular and beloved hits. It was written by Tempchin, who completed the final verse of his classic ballad while waiting for his order at the Wienerschnitzel (then known as Der Wienerschnitzel) on Washington Street in Hillcrest...

TEMPCHIN'S 'PEACEFUL EASY FEELING' AT 40 -SD Union Tribune
“Jack is a guy who doesn’t get enough credit. What a great songwriter he is!” said Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, who lived near Tempchin in Encinitas between 1995 and 2001.
Frey first heard Tempchin play "Peaceful Easy Feeling" when he and Tempchin were at Jackson Browne's home in Hollywood.
"The Eagles had been together for barely a week at the time, but Frey immediately recognized a great song when he heard it. A gentle song with a lilting melody and carefully honed lyrics of aspirational love, "Peaceful Easy Feeling" sounds both personal and universal. Stylistically, it can be played as a folk song or a country ballad. Then and now, its verses and chorus have an inviting sing-along quality that's hard to resist..." -George Varga SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE

REVIEW EXCERPT: "Jack Tempchin’s life after 1973 would be a whirlwind of rock star fantasies. He would write some of the finest and best-selling pop songs of the last 50 years. He would tour with the likes of Ringo Starr. He would spend the next 35-plus years in the spotlight as a performer and bandleader.
Much of that changed, however, a few years ago when Tempchin decided to go back to his folk roots. Instead of performing with a backing band, Jack began gigging solo, alone on stage with just his voice, an acoustic guitar, and his harmonica. It’s just Jack, alone, and stripped down to his bare essence... The end result is a masterful tour de force by a master songwriter and country-rock journeyman." ~Raul Sandelin, SAN DIEGO TROUBADOUR

I LIKE IT BETTER HERE - MORE MUSIC FROM HOME
When Jack Tempchin, legendary songwriter for the Eagles, (Already Gone, Peaceful Easy Feeling), Johnny Rivers (Slow Dancing) and Glenn Frey (Smugglers Blues, You Belong To The City), first heard Swedish act Citizen K, he was so impressed by the vocal, instrumental and arranging skills, that he offered a new unreleased song, right there on the spot.
You Only Live Once is the opening track to I Like It Better Here – More Music From Home (the 2nd album to celebrate the joy and and magic of home), where Citizen K and two of his musical buddies are calling themselves the Smashing Tempchins, as a humble homage to one of their favorite songwriters.
Where the first volume had more of a westcoast-focus, this second volume has more of a americana/country/roots-feeling.....

Jack Debuts at FAR WEST PREMIERE SHOWCASE ON 10/23
"Although forever branded as the guy who wrote 'Peaceful Easy Feeling', veteran songwriter songwriter Jack Tempchin has a massive songbook by now, as heard at the Maverick Saloon on Wednesday.
(Mr. Tempchin) has maintained his creative discipline and renewed his songwriting fervor with an ambitious project he calls "Song a Day", with the results posted on humble video demos posted on You Tube at: http://www.songadayjournal.com
In a way, those few ink-still-wet tunes heard on Wednesday- "Lovers Like Us" and songs about religious warring and a witty ditty about collecting women named Amy were high points, proof of ongoing artistic vitality." -JOSEF WOODARD Santa Barbara News Press

Jack Tempchin, best known for penning Eagles hits 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' and 'Already Gone,' returns to the Tales From the Tavern series, Wednesday at the Maverick Saloon... by Josef Woodard Santa Barbara News Press
Clearly, songwriting is his life's direction.
"I tried quitting," he says. "It seemed like a good idea, but I'm giving up on that."
Many songwriters are unsung heroes. Many write award-winning lyrics, but remain in the shadows. However, hitmaker Jack Tempchin doesn't fall into any of these categtories. Tempchin, a vessel for sun-soaked messages and slow, mellow rhythms, manages to stay in the forefront, a lyricist with a passion for performing. With hits like "Peaceful, Easy Feeling" and "Already Gone," he blazed a trail for easy-listening country rock and has been penning timeless, sterling tunes ever since...
